Design

Design means getting downtown into top physical shape. Capitalizing on historic buildings is just part of the story. An inviting atmosphere created through window displays, parking areas, signs, sidewalks, street lights and landscaping conveys a visual message about what downtown is and what it has to offer. Current programs and past projects include:

  • Facade Improvement Program

  • Mini Grant Program

  • Preservation Plan Update

  • Downtown Streetscape Improvement

  • Design Review Handbook

  • Storefront Design Initiative

Neighborhood Development

Downtown Mansfield has been involved in restoring and revitalizing downtown Mansfield for more than 20 years. During this time, we have focused primarily on retail and service businesses as well as commercial buildings in the downtown. As downtown has evolved, and experienced positive commercial growth, housing and the improvement of near downtown neighborhoods are integral to the next phase of revitilizing our city center. DMI currently leads two neighborhood intiatives and is currently focusing on the following programs and projects:

  • Richland County Land Reutilization Corporation

  • St. Peter's District Committee

  • St. Peter's Residents Committee

  • State Historic Preservation

  • National Register of Historic Places Designation

Event Planning

As the premier authority on events in the downtown district, DMI seeks to improve signature events and assist individuals and organizations in their pursuit of holding events within downtown. This committee works in tandem with the City of Mansfield, Mansfield Police Department and downtown stakeholders to ensure events are held safely and thoughtfully in downtown. DMI has assisted with the following:

  • Richland Carrousel's Children's Festival

  • MidOhio 13er

  • Heart of the City Cruise In
